· is trained and qualified to care for children
· is able to take sole charge of the children
· does not do housework unless it is with regard to the children
· may live in or live out
· takes meals with the children when on duty
· organises and carries out the children's daily routine
· Provides stimulating educational activities appropriate to the age of the children in her care
· may carry out household management tasks e.g. grocery shopping, paying bills, menu planning etc.
· has driver's license and may have own car

A Professional Childminder is someone who:

· has completed basic training as a "home care nurse" or "auxiliary nurse" or equivalent able to take sole charge and/or assist parents in the care of their infants
· will carry out domestic duties pertaining to the infants in her care e.g. washing, ironing, cleaning, preparing foods etc.
· eat with the children
· provided stimulating educational activities
· may live in or live out
